I'm a little concerned about the wording in this course . For example, this is one of the questions in the WC section 9 quiz
How are rates for worker's compensation determined?
Choose one answer.
A. Premiums for overtime may be excluded
B. Both of the answers are correct
C. None of the answers are correct
D. Rates are per $1,000 of payroll
The reason why I chose C. Is because overtime "IS" excluded by using the word "May" it's making this exclusion an option in this section when in reality premiums for overtime is ALWAYS excluded it is not an option. So this is not fair for me or my grade on these quizzes . Because in reality "Premiums for overtime IS excluded !
Stephanie,
There is a significant difference between "is" and "may". Overtime is excluded if the employer has been tracking overtime separate from the employees regular pay. However, this is not the case with many employers and in those cases overtime is included in the WC rate.
The state realizes that this happens, especially with smaller companies, so that is why overtime "may" be excluded if the employer is able to show an accurate breakdown of hours.

Maybe something to think about...this class is not here to trick you unless it has the words NOT, NEVER, or completely wrong information (for true/false). The state exam is not trying to trick you either. It either is or is not. Hope this helps :)
