Final Exam & This Course

Final Exam & This Course

I must have missed something. I've received over 90% on all my quizzes, then when I took the Final Exam for this course - it was like I was taking the final for something else. I wasn't familiar with most of the information it was asking about. After passing the Final, (with a 77%) i went back through all the info given in the course, and couldn't find the info specifically asked about in the final, yet again.

Again, I must have missed something, but I'm not very confident in taking the state exam now, and would like to take the Final Exam over and over until I'm comfortable. Is that possible (since I've passed it) ?? If not - WHY not?

Another thing - on the quizzes - it would be nice if when answering and submitting right away - it would Explain the answer, and maybe a reference so we can go back and study - rather than just tell me what the right answer is, and no reasons behind it.

I'm very disappointed in this course...

I have taken many an online course for insurance licensing as I emmigrate to new states. And I have to say that the way this is set up, I can tell that it is not preparing me for the final.  I have signed up for the prep state exam course.  It said that the format of the q's in that would be how the state is going to ask the questions. (in the 'state exam' format.)

I am hoping it's going to help me.  I have always passed online state exam courses. This one has me VERY Worried. I would NEVER recommend this course to anyone.

If I needed to take another state online course for insurance, I would hunt down the course that had a teacher and a video for every chapter with someone who had been doing it for a billion years , who was sooo helpful with tips for remembering this or that. But all this class does is say, read the next chapter. And why did we have to pay for a book????????????????????

Good luck on the test.

Jonathan,

I'm sorry you are disappointed in this course.  I reviewed your transcript and I see you have done well throughout the course.  You received high scores on all quizzes and a solid passing score on the final exam.  I'm sure I can arrange a second attempt at the final exam if you want additional practice, but your scores show that are ready for the state exam.  The unit exams are only testing on small portions of insurance material and when the final exam brings all of this information together on one exam, most students receive a lower score.  I would be happy to provide you with information/answers/rcourse references on questions you missed on the final exam. As mentioned in your registration letter, I am available for questions and concerns anytime throughout the course by email or phone, so I extend that offer to you as you prepare for the state exam.

I see you registered through Edison College.  Edison has a 65.52% pass rate on the state exam compared to a 50.94% rate in the rest of the state, so most students have been successful.  These may seem like low numbers, but the state insurance exams are some of the toughest state-administered exams.  Many schools have pass rates below 30%.  The highest pass rates are held by insurance companies that provide classroom training to their employees so they obviously have a very different mix of students.

I agree with your suggestion about a reference that directs students to "where to find" the correct answer and I will work on adding this to the course.

I hope you will take advantage of my offer to assist as you prepare for the state exam. Thank you for your suggestions and I welcome any additional questions or concerns you may have.

Regards,   Jan Bradburn

Bob a carpenter of xyz drives an abc dealership vehicle out of the car lot for a test . Bob has an at fault accident if ANC carries a $1,000,000 bodily injury / property damage coverage and bob carries no insurance how much coverage is applicable to bob . I choose 1,000,000 because that's the blanket amount ABc dealers had on their policy which bob was driving . The answer I chose was incorrect & the correct answer was 10/20 BI 10k pd , how so if it clearly stated 100k was the coverage amount for both BI & pd ...

Stephanie,

Please refer to page 89 in the state manual.  For "dealers risk" coverage - if customers do not have their own insurance, they are not protected as an insured, but they have liability protection of 10/20/10 only.

What satisfies the Florida Financial Responsibility Law?
Choose one answer.
A. None of these answers are correct Incorrect
B. Liability of 10/20/10 and PIP Incorrect
C. Liability of 10/20/10 Correct
D. Liability of 10/20/10 and Medical Payments Incorrect
The Florida Financial Responsibility Law requires that any person at fault in a crash resulting in bodily injury and property damage to others must have in effect at the time of the crash full liability insurance coverage. This coverage includes minimum limits of bodily injury liability of $10,000 per person, $20,000 per crash, $10,000 property damage liability per crash, and personal injury protection limits of $10,000 per person per crash.
JAN, I have been trying to get a full or partial refund due to the lack of competance I've found in this course. Finding ONE question & answer to be incorrect completely ruins any TRUST I am supposed to have that the information your course is providing to be correct. I've found more than one, by the way.
I've pushed for Exam Simulators (albeit no-longer accurate), a refund, even a partial refund behind the scenes via email to prevent embarrasment, but this is getting ridiculous.
I've also found that the final exam (if taken twice) is exactly the same both times.
You've mentioned that you only allow students to take the final exam twice because other courses do that, too. I'm sure 'other courses' are professional enough to know how to properly challenge their students for their own benefit by changing up the final exam in order to prevent people from getting all the correct answers from the first test so that they can pass the second test and NOT have to "fail the course" and have to "repurchase".
It's bad business, and unprofessional.
This isn't a personal attack, I am a customer getting upset because I paid $450 for false and untrustworthy information, and is being told that I "don't qualify for a refund".

This IS business, and I am a Very unhappy customer. Please fix this.

Jonathan, I have been seeing this early on since I started this process mid-August. At first I thought it was because there's so much information that I was overwhelmed. Then I started realizing that the state manual is terribly written making comprehension very difficult! So much that I'm attending a crash course this past weekend and next weekend for $395, bought Andy Beverly flash cards for $40 and exam simulators for $60. For someone like me who already has retention challenges, this has been a nightmare from which I will soon wake up. The flash cards have been very helpful and so has the crash course because the instructor clarifies. I don't believe it is Jan's doing that this course is also poortly constructed. She is an instructor. I would look to the Miami-Dade College folks to get this right. Try to focus and keep your eye on the prize! Hope you find your solution. Best of luck!

Re: Final Exam & This Course

Jonathan,

You are referencing the FL Department of Highway Safety&Motor Vehicles site. This site states the requirements for motor vehicle registration which includes the Financial Responsibility Law AND and No-Fault Law.  The requirement to fulfil (only) the Financial Responsibility Law is minimium liability limits of 10/20/10.  Please refer to the top of page 37 in the state manual which validates this information. The online course and the state manual are a completely competent source of information for the state exam. The information in the course is true and trustworthy. You state that you have more incorrect answers.  I will happy to address those as well and explain why they are correct.

The state insurance exam is based on the state insurance manual.  If you go out to other websites, you will come across information specific to businesses or companies, AND this will result in incorrect answers on the state exam.

I continue to state that you did well on the course and passed all levels.  College courses do not offer a refund because a student fails to pass the state exam on the first attempt. I stand by my claim that hundreds of students have sucessfully completed this 20-44 course and passed the state licensing exam.  Study hard and you can do this too!

Jan

Hi Keith, I'm still reading and studying the manual, taking exam simulators and planning to take a crash course this weekend and next. I've not taken the final exam for this course yet. I want to be certain I will get at least an 80% or better. Last night for the first time I got a 79.7 on the test simulator which is better than 53 or 61 from prior attempts. Also, today I got 72% of the answers on the pratice exam at the end of the manual. I consider that a major achievement since I was less than 50% with my first attempt and that's a more difficult exam. I also ordered flash cards which should help as well. I recommend heavily reading the manual because it's got much more detail than any online course. Then reviewing your weak points which is where I'm at now. Good luck!

Hi Grisel, Dont know where to begin lol, but i must say, this is a lot harder then i expected. i also got low scores on first try's, a few i did get 76 or so, but most were in the 40 and 50's.  but when i took them on the 3rd try, i was getting some in the 80 and 90's. The thing i fear most, is the state exam, i had no idea that after all this, that i had to take yet another test?, i thought the final was the final lol.. and i have to take it blind no less?, im on unit 6 now and i dont think i learned much, there is way to much here to soak in, let alone a state exam all at once. im tring very hard, but just cant remember or understand everything!!!! lol.. I dont have any books, cards or manuals. did i miss something i need? crash course? lol.. I wish you luck and i hope you make it, keep me posted, i'll be here for a few weeks at least. THANKS  :)

Keith, Without the manual this course is pointless . When you registered for this class they should have emailed you a link where you can purchase the Manuel . If not go to Andy Beverly's website and you can purchase there . I too just ordered my flash cards. Many friends of mine which have ready taken the state exam mentioned to me that the exact questions on the exam are on the flash cards so this is a great study material. And don't worry I've been in the insurance business for a few years now and this course is a tough one . I too feel like it's a lot of information to soak in but as long as you study and use your study mAterial I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck !

I too am on unit 6 commercial property. I usually study the same unit for about 3-4 days to make sure all Info sinks in . You can take the quize's as many times as you want to prepare yourself for the final exam . Which you have two attempts to take .

Hello everyone,

It is great to see several of you in here helping each other and cheering each other on.  All of OLT's Property and Casualty courses read this forum.  Some of them have a required state Licensing exam and some don't.  Everyone should definitely purchase the State Manual - in most cases it is actually required by law.

Take care and Great Luck!

Keith, I have felt the same way. The manual is poorly written and confusing. In my case, I realized I don't do well unless I can ask questions to which I get an immediate response from a live teacher. I took a chance at a crash course and sooooo glad I did. The workbook for the class is concise and to the point without all the superfluous and confusing verbiage. Plus, it's a live online course so I can ask the teacher questions. My assimilation has increase enormously because what I'm reading makes sense even though its the same material. I'm waiting to be done next weekend, then go through my flash cards before taking the final for the Miami-Dade online class. I'm more confident I"ll do well. It's the Hilda Tucker Insurance School. I'm taking two weekends, 8 - 6 pm Saturday and Sunday. Workbook is included which is amazing. It's $395 which is expensive considering we've already paid $265 for this course but it is well worth it an its making a huge difference. Maybe get their exam simulators if you can't shell out the cash. I think it would be great, too. Good luck.

Re: Final Exam & This Course

Stephanie, my preference was a classroom structure but this live online or webinar is just as good because you can clear up a lot of misunderstanding and confusion. I tried to find one through Andy Beverly but they have the class during the week and I work. Taking time off work where I don't get paid for it, was not feasible. I'm very happy with Hilda Tucker but if you can swing it, stick to Andy Beverly and don't hesitate about taking it. Makes a world of difference.

Re: Final Exam & This Course

Jonathan, I learned about them through posts on this forum. I did a Google search and found that most schools have exam simulators. However, the one I purchased includes many questions not relating to the 2-20 which produces a low score. If I were to do it over, I'd purchase the exam simulators from  either the Hilda Tucker Insurance School or the Andy Beverly. Just my opinion.

Re: Final Exam & This Course

At Hilda Tucker, they provide a workbook which is a bullet-point approach and taken from the state manual. I got the state manual when I signed up for this online course. If you don't have it, it is critical and just refer to the original email they sent you with links. One of the links takes you directly to  the bookstore where you can get the manual. Even if it is terribly written, it has the details and even with this crash course having it's own workbook, we are still using the state manual. The flash cards I had to buy separately and Andy Beverly is cheaper at $45 versus Hilda Tucker at $60.

Hi Grisel: My name is Ron.  I completed the course and am getting ready to take the state exam.  I obtained a disk with flash card questions from the same  folks that sent my state manual. These flash cards did not appear too helpful since the same 40 questions were repeated over and over again.   I invested in an exam simulator.  I am curious though about the type of questions that will be asked on  the state exam.  You said that you knew people who took the test and said that the question were similar to those on the  flash cards.  My question is:  how are the questions structured.  Are the questions testing rope memorization or application of the law or prinicple to specific fact patterns?  Any knowledge that you may be able to pass on would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Re: Final Exam & This Course

Hi Ron,

What I was told is that the Andy Beverly cards are more difficult than the state exam. I just finished an online crash course for the past two weekends that was phenomenal with Hilda Tucker Insurance School. Well worth the money and early weekend mornings :-). I did not see any cards (and there are way more than 40), with questions structured like you explain.

They actually had information from the state manual and also from the Hilda Tucker School even though the cards weren't from there and it's because both schools are taking their questions directly from the state manual which is great! I highly recommend getting flash cards from either of these places although Andy Beverly is cheaper than Hilda Tucker.

Good luck!

Thanks Grisel:  As my exam is scheduled for this Friday, I think it is too late to invest in more materials.  If I do not pass, I certainly will invest in the flash cards and perhaps another exam simulator.  I invested in an exam simulator with a group called insurance-schools.com.  The have 35, 100 question exams.  The questions cover the materials in the state manual.  However, the wording of several of the questions and answers do not appear as "tricky" as in the manual.  It is going to be close, but I may be able to guess enough right answers to pass. lol.  Thanks again for you suggestions.  And, good luck to you as well.

Those are the same exam simulators I got but have found they have questions that are not relating to General Lines or are not in the state manual. I say that for certain because I just finished a crash course where we went through the manual in detail. If I had to do it over, I'd get the Andy Beverly or Hilda Tucker. I'm planning to take the OLT exam thins evening and will then schedule the state. My crash course teacher the main areas of focus are CPP, PAP, Coml Prop, CGL. The rest are in diminishing order. Good luck!
