State Exam

State Exam

I've read most, if not all, of the other threads regarding the state exam, and I wanted to share my experience after passing the state exam on my first attempt.

Section 1.2 of the 22nd edition of the study manual tells you exactly what to study.  It's a vast amount of information, but the 150 test questions are selected randomly and could cover anything in the manual.

The four main sections are Automobile, Property, General Liability, and Package Policies. Worker's Comp is the fifth largest section.  Although these sections comprise a large portion of the exam, they do not weigh heavily enough to only concentrate on these areas.  Cancellation/Non-renewal statutes also seem to be an area of importance.

I recommmend studying every unit in-depth and obtaining a firm grasp on the concepts and formulas rather than just memorizing answers to scenarios.

Best of luck to everyone!

I passed the exam on 09-12-2013 on my first attempt also, and I completely concur.  You have to have a thorough understanding of all the concepts and definitions, a lot of memorizing is involved, but you will need to concentrate on Automobile, Property Insurance, General Liability, Package Policies and Workman's Comp.  However, Agent Licensing, Automobile Laws and Unfair Trade Practices encompassed a lot of the questions on my exam as well.  I think the course did a good job, but I also think reading the Study Manual thoroughly really helped me.  Good Luck to everyone that takes this test, it is definitely a doosy.

Thanks for advice with the exam. Did you just study the online course and study manual? Or did you use flashcards and other tools? Just curious I'm still in the beginning of the course.

Hope, I simply studied the manual and completed the online course. If flashcards and other study tools help you, then by all means use such tools. Best wishes!

I just took my exam and only scored a 60%.  You are dead on regarding the breakdowns.  Did terrible on Property, auto, and general liability questions.
