unit courses or book first?

unit courses or book first?

I'm just starting this course, just wondering what order everyone studies in? Do you do the units first or read the section in the book first?

Also I thought at the beginning of each lesson they are supposed to tell you what pages in the study manuel correspond to the lesson?

TIA! I look forward to helping each other out as we go through this course :)

Hi Hope,

I'm anxious to see how students respond to your question regarding how to study.  As for listing the cooresponding pages in the study manual...The course does not list the pages, but it lists the sections of the state study manual.  The page numbers change with each edition, but the section numbers remain the same so it easier to keep up with the course materials.

I'm anxious too! I'm just wondering how other people study the material. I'm thinking it'd be best to do a unit first, then go ahead and study the manual....i just need to wait for my maual to arrive.

Hi Hope,

Obviously, feel free to study how it's best for you to learn!  I studied the course by browsing the entire unit in the manual first, then going into the course and answering the specific questions and taking the unit quizzes.

To make sure I understood the context of what I was learning, I would go back and re-read the manual when necessary.

Best of luck with your studies!

I recommend first reading the unit in the book then do the unit on-line as the book contains more info then the on-line course.

Hope,

There is not a right or wrong way to study the course.  You should try both and see what works best for you. You do not need to wait until your manual arrives to begin the course. Please keep in mind that you can email me at any time with your questions: bradburn@oltraining.com.

I've been using the course material to section off parts of the book to read and compare with at the same time. For example, if the course section is covering "newly covered auto" (very confusing part for me), I'll read the book covering all relavant material regarding "newly covered auto" then read the course material. Sometimes the book does a better job explaning the concept, and sometimes it's the course material. The course material is very helpful in putting into laymens terms because the book has a tendency to explain using the law or policy terms verbatim, then leave you to ponder the real world implications. If you're not a lawyer (which I am not) it can be very cumbersome.

Travis,

Thanks for your response.  You may be interested to know that currently, there is an attorney who is licensed to practice law in two states.  She is enrolled in this course and she also finds some of the content cumbersome! !
