Update on State Exam Results

I passed! I was nervous and I can tell you it is somewhat difficult since you don't know what will be on it. There are a lot of questions where you need to know the terms. They don't necessarily ask the definition, although some do, but if you don't know what the word means, you can't answer the question correctly. The area I did the worst in was Types of Policies, Insurance Terms & Related Concepts. There are math questions so you need to know how to calculate some. There are many Statute questions like about twisting, etc. So you should know the statutes, especially since you do not know which questions they will ask. I reviewed the whole time right before the test and it helped to go over the practice questions in the back again. I highly recommend knowing the terms and especially knowing the symbols for different coverages, which are Ho-2,, HO-3, etc. and knowing which statutes. It's obviously an average. So what helped me was that I got 96% and around that in some areas, so scoring below on the others helped me out. I could see how I could have failed though so that's why best advice is to know the definitions and when those terms apply and know the statutes and symbols, coverages, etc. Good luck to the rest!

Your answer : 19000

Please compare your answer to the correct answer:

$10,400

The Question:

Pete has a Personal Auto Policy with basic PIP. Pete is driving his car and Pete takes his son, Jim and his and son’s friend, Joe, on a trip to Texas. Pete is involved in an auto accident. Pete suffers $8,000 in injuries, Jim suffers $5,000 in injuries, and Joe suffers $6,000 in injuries. How much will Pete's PIP pay for all injuries

PIP doesn't cover injuries to the 100%.

I will recomend you to read about how pip coverage covers for injuries for household members and no household members out of state.

In this case PIP won't cover for Joe.

so it is:

Pete = $8000 x 80%

Jim $5000 x 80%

and Joe $6000 x 0 ( no covered under FL pip law)

Pete $6400 and Jim $4000, Joe $0 = $10,400.

Remember that PIP only covers 80% of medical/injuries and that it only covers the named insured(Pete) and family members residing(son, Jim). It is out of state so therefore, Joe gets nothing. 8000X80% + 5000X80%= 10400. I think this is right?

PIP will only cover Pete and his son so that's $13,000 and it only covers 80% so that's $10,400.

Estella,

Pete and his son are covered under Pete's policy for PIP.  Pete's medical expenses are $8000 X 80% = $6400 and his son's medical expense is $5000 X 80% = $4000.

$10,400 + $4000 = $10,400

Marianela:thanks for the head up!  and congratulations!!. I am going to schedule mine probably for next week. I am nervous as well, and how did you do with the time? did you have enough time to answer all the questions?

Re: Update on State Exam Results

Yes, there was more than enough time. I actually finished early even with reviewing some of the questions I had marked to go back to. The exam is separated into two sections. First, it's the policy questions. You have to finish that first and review your answers. Then, it's the statutes questions and things dealing with ethics and such. That's the last part. And I still had like 1.5 hours when I went into the second section. If you know the material, you shouldn't worry about time. Don't stay too long on one question though. You can mark it for review and can go back to it later. I did that with a few. So I think that helped me with time. Good luck!

I didn't use any flashcards. I only used the manual and I read the complete Florida statues online. The manual provides some statues but it references others not in the book so I had the complete statues available to ensure I understood them correctly.

Just to clarify...the only statutes on the state exam are in the state manual.

Hi Jan, After reading this thread, I began looking at the statues in the back of the book and there are a ton of them. Which ones should we focus on and where in the book do I look for them? The ones in the back of the book are too many to remember. Would you please clarify this for me, because I am having a little anxiety just thinking about it ;) does it start on page 211 , chapter 17.5? Thank you

Joana,

Good question!  You should focus on the statutes that are discussed in the online training materials.  Many of the statutes deal with the same issues as they apply to various segments of the insurance industry. The online materials summarize and emphasize the statutes known  to be on the state exam in the past.

Thank you for your response, Jan! Is there a certain section in the online study guide where I could find the statues? I honestly don't know how other people use just the book to study without the online course. It really helps to nail it in the brain :)

The Florida Statutes section is the last unit in all of the P&C courses.  The number of units vary with each course, but it is always the last section.
