Johnathan,
spelling is bad>>>? too big of a hurry and no way to check... but I bet you get the idea.
The most important thing I can say is, "Take every minute you have to test"
First; you'll see 5 intro questions. There's no time limit and you are not graded on these 5 questions.
You will understand when you set down to take the test. Your instructer will show you... then you'll do an "OH YeaH" This is what he's talking about. till then this pretest test, may be confusing.
These pree-testquestions are designed to determine you understanding of the English lanquage. "to be fair" to those who may not understand English and to try to determine to match your knowledge level with an appropriate difficulty level in test questions.
Your first 5 questions... I don't remember but 3 of the 5 are:
What frozen participation falls from the sky?
What color does Blue and Green make?
Where is the capital of USA?
I've been told the computer has 5 different levels of difficulty for each series of questions. The test may consist of 4-5 groups of questions... example 1-20, 21-40, etc.
At the end of each series of questions; the computer will load the next series depending on how long it took you to take the last series and how quickly you answered the questions.
Translating... on the first 5 intro/preliminary questions.... take 10 - 15 minutes. Change those answers several times if you like. Personally I only answered 1 question correctly: Where is the capital of the US?
So, you have made your way through the preliminary test and your ready for the main test. You took your time, you acted like you didn't understand or you just didn't know the answers.... no matter how simple.
Now you are proceeding to the Actual State Exam!
This is the real deal now.... every answer counts right or wrong!
On your dry erase board write down:
Yes:
Maybe?:
NO WAY!
AS YOU GO FROM QUESTION TO QUESTION YOU MUST TAKE YOUR TIME. NO MATTER IF THE ANSWER IS AS EASY AS WHEN DOES THE SUN SHINE?...
MARK THE ANSWERE AND MOVE TO THE NEXT QUESTION IN THE LAST QUARTER OF THE TIME YOU HAVE ALLOWED FOR EACH QUESTION.
"What does that mean?"
180 questions and you have 3 hours to take the test equals 3 minutes per question... Right?
You look at question #1. You read the question. It's easy! You know the Answer... DON'T ANSWER YET!
"Remember you have 3 minutes per question... right?" You take 2:30 seconds before you mark your answer and then go to the next question...... Take the 2:30 No matter how easy the question is. The computer is determining your answer timing and overall response time. Quicker time and faster response... tells the computer "You are Smart! LoAD A MORE DIFFICULT SERIES NEXT TIME"
ok.. You know #1 is write... You know you answered it correctly. You are Sure you are right!
Now.... Put a 1 next to YES, and then a comma.
-----
Next question... take the same amount of time. Try to determine the two diffinatlye wrong answeres... so now it's a 50/50 shot... right? Pick the one you think in correct You think your right... just not sure.... Waiting until 2:30 have ticked off from your 3 minutes available before going to number 3.
Now.... Put a 2 next to Maybe? go to question 3.
Question 3 is a real duzy... You don't have a clue. You can't get any idea at all what they are asking let alone which answer is right. It's time for a WAG.
But.... you wait your 2:30 before making the guess and going to the next question... Wait... pace yourself.
Now.... Put a 3 next to NO WAY!
You've spent your time being patient. You've gone through the elimination process.... You've made your best guess.
#4 question will be either YES, Maybe?, or NO WAY!.... you have to decide. Put the corrisponding number next the YES, Maybe? or NO WAY!.
DO NOT CHANGE ANY ANSWERS UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED EVERY QUESTION!
Theoredically; you should have 15-30 minutes for your review process.
Now you start your review.
ONLY REVIEW THE NO WAY! ANSWERS.
Stats show you are:
80% right when you know your right.... these are the YES questions. Don't change any YES
60% right when you Think Your Right!... these are the Maybe? questions. "If you change these answeres" you stand a higher percentage making your right answers Wrong ... so Don't Change Them!
20% right by sure luck when you DON'T HAVE A CLUE... These are your NO WAY! answers.
Now, if you change these and isolate the two answers that are diffinately wrong... you select one of the possible correct from the "Less Wrong" answers and your percentage goes to nearly 40% getting them right. ONLY CHANGE THE NO WAY! answers...
Once you've gone through the NO WAY! answers and isolated the two diffinatly wrong and picked the one answer you think might be right... . Look at the clock.
You should still have 5 - 15 minutes of your total time left!
Remember it's not how long you took to take the test. It's how long it takes to PASS THE TEST!
"I've successfully taken 3 state tests" all the same first 5 preliminary questions"
I've taken the time... isolated the NO WAY! questions, isolated in the review the two worst answers and made my Guess now of the one of the two possible answers left.
Right or wrong... I've passed all three State Tests the first time and I really think this method is a sound way to go about it.
Good Luck... Take your time; "Nearly, All your time"
ONLY CHange the NO Way! answers....
at the end of the test your paper should like something like:
YES: 1, 4, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 34.... etc.
Maybe?: 2, 3, 7,8.... etc
NO WAY!: 5, 9, 10 ..... etc. "these are the only answers to change"
See you at the Dance!
