You’re confusing coverage amounts with loss amounts.
This question is providing the amount of Coverage D available, which is $30,000. You don’t need to calculate the Coverage D amount.
Since Joe has $30,000 coverage, $8300 is available for additional living expense and $100 for loss of use the rent = $8400
