I am scheduled to take the state final for my 2-20 license on March 7. I went for an interview yesterday and they explained to me that the state exam is difficult and I should take a prep class. I did research and looked online and I am not able to afford to take a prep class before I take the state exam. Has anyone taken the state exam without taking a prep class, just using the knowledge from the class and the study manual? Does anyone have any good tips?

The state exam is difficult but many students are able to pass the test without taking a pass/prep course. It's important that you study both the online course materials and state manual. If you have questions you need to find the answers before you test. As your instructor I'm available to answer your questions through email.
The secret to passing the state exam is study and review. I'd like to hear from other students who have passed the exam without a pass/prep course.

Prep classes can be very helpful in preparation for the state exam. However if you feel you are well-prepared for the exam, I usually suggest just taking the exam. The $50 exam fee is less than most prep courses and you have a good chance of passing. If you don't pass on the first attempt, you will be even better prepared for the second attempt.
I think your plan of studying the quizzes and final exam in the online course and the exam practice questions in the state manual is a good plan.

I took my state test today and passed on the first attempt. I bought and completed the pass prep class offered by OLTraining. My opinion, I got more out of the quizzes and reviewing the unit courses in the original course than I got out of the pass prep class. The pass prep class had poorly worded questions and wasn't worth the money, imo... Anyways, hope all goes well and you pass!
