Self-Directed Learning Home Page
Welcome to the Self-Directed Learning Home Page. Your perusal, contributions,
dialogue, and suggestions are welcome.
[This entire home page was designed to be used with Netscape for best effect.
Most other browsers will work but you may miss many of the graphics, sounds,
etc. If you would like to download Netscape for your own system try clicking
here.]
The initial development of these pages has been aimed primarily at those
interested in the advancement of the knowledge base associated with self-directed
learning. Much of this knowledge base has stemmed from the International
Self-Directed Learning Symposium. The tenth symposium was held March 6-10,
1996, at the Palm Beach Atlantic College, West Palm Beach, Florida. The
1997 symposium will be held most likely in March, 1997, in Orlando, Florida.
More information on this function and related functions will be communicated
via this web page. You also should find several resources or links to resources
that will be valuable in various ways. This material will evolve over the
next several months so its value will change. If you have some ideas, suggestions,
or just would like to converse with someone try sending Roger Hiemstra an
electronic message or Terry
Redding an electronic message.
For those who like advanced organizers, this resource has been developed
initially with two primary sections beyond this first page:
- There is an informational section where you will find a variety of
pieces related to self-directed learning. In the beginning it will contain
material developed or authored primarily by Roger Hiemstra. However, its
value rests in you making contributions, too. Thus, send material you would
like included to Terry Redding.
Send it electronically as an RTF file or HTM file, or on a disk. However,
it is always best to send Terry an electronic message ahead of time to make
appropriate arrangements. Let's see this section grow into a resource that
will help move the field along.
- There is a section with several hot links to pages and resources of
related value. Please send Terry Redding
the url's for other links you believe important or valuable to those
interested in self-directed learning.
- In addition, we have a listserv in place where we can debate, discuss,
and share various issues. For now we intend to limit membership to those
who have attended one or more of the past symposium. Under discussion, and
perhaps this can be part of our listserv debates, is the formation of an
association, academy, or some other organization for the advancement of
self-directed learning world-wide. Membership in the listserv eventually
may be restricted to this membership once it is in place.
- These are the various options from which you may choose:
